Ensuring Vital Support for Refugees and Protected Persons on Their Rehab Journey

What is IFHP?

The Interim Federal Health Program (IFHP) in Canada provides temporary health coverage to specific groups of refugees and protected persons who do not qualify for provincial health insurance. This program is crucial for ensuring that vulnerable populations receive necessary medical care, including physiotherapy, while they navigate their immigration status.

What does IFHP Cover?

Under the IFHP, eligible individuals can access a range of healthcare services, including preventive care, treatment for illnesses, and rehabilitation services like physiotherapy. Physiotherapy is essential for patients recovering from injuries, surgeries, or managing chronic conditions. The IFHP covers physiotherapy services provided by registered physiotherapists, enabling individuals to receive essential care without financial burden. Physiotherapy can significantly improve patients' quality of life, helping them regain mobility, strength, and overall well-being. For IFHP beneficiaries, accessing physiotherapy services can be a crucial step in their recovery journey, particularly for those who may be dealing with trauma or injuries sustained during their migration.

What does IFHP cover for physiotherapy visits?

Individuals covered under IFHP are eligible for one (1) initial physiotherapy visit (covered at $134), as well as twelve (12) subsequent visits per calendar year (covered at $84/session).

IFHP and Delta Physiotherapy & Rehab

Here at Delta Physiotherapy & Rehab, we are registered with the Interim Federal Health Program (IFHP). If you are a refugee, we are here to assist you in your recovery and will handle all necessary authorizations, allowing you to focus on your healing.

Here are the steps you need to follow:

  1. Obtain a Physician Referral: If you need help finding a family physician, we can guide you to local resources.
  2. Visit Our Clinic: Once you have a referral, come to our clinic. Our staff will ensure all the proper steps are taken to obtain pre-authorization for your treatment. While this process may take a few days, we’ll keep you informed every step of the way.
  3. Claims Submission: We will manage the claims submission process for you, as the IFHP only reimburses registered health-care providers authorized to submit claims. There is no out-of-pocket expenses for patients.

The Interim Federal Health Program plays a vital role in ensuring that refugees and protected persons in Ontario have access to essential physiotherapy services. By bridging gaps in healthcare access, the IFHP supports the overall health and well-being of some of the most vulnerable members of our society, enabling them to rebuild their lives in Canada.

We have practitioners who speak: English, Urdu, Hindi, Arabic, Polish, Farsi, French, and Mandarin.

Book an initial appointment with us today at Delta Physiotherapy & Rehab at either of our convenient locations in Central Parkway or Dundas, Mississauga, and we will get you started on your healing journey!
