Healing Plantar Fasciitis: Laser & Shockwave Therapy Explained

Plantar fasciitis is an inflammation of the plantar fascia. This is a tendon located at the bottom of your foot. It starts from your heel bone and connects at the base of your toes. You can feel and see this tendon when you extend your big toe. You will see a cord-like structure going from your heel to your toe, this is your plantar fascia! This tendon supports your arch and acts like a shock absorber when you’re walking.

Plantar fasciitis is typically caused by overuse of the tendon by walking a lot, shoes with a lack of arch support, or improper foot mechanics. Plantar fasciitis typically feels like a stabbing pain at the heel of your foot.

At Delta Physiotherapy and Rehab, we see and treat this injury very frequently. We use a mix of laser therapy and shockwave therapy to help heal this injury. At Delta Physiotherapy and Rehab, we use Laser therapy to help get rid of the inflammation and scar tissue build up caused by the inflammation of the tendon. Shockwave therapy mechanically gets rid of the scar tissue and allows for more blood flow to the area to progress the healing process. We follow this up with a mix of stretching and strengthening of the arch, the calves, the soleus, and the hamstring to help heal your current injury and prevent this injury from reoccurring.
